Email Offerings

Note for customers on Student/Personal or Faculty/Professional Shared Hosting plans:
As of January 1, 2026, Reclaim no longer offers email mailboxes with Student/Personal or Faculty/Professional Shared Hosting plans. Email mailboxes are currently available only with Organizational Shared Hosting plans. If you previously used Reclaim-hosted email and are looking for next steps, this article explains the current email offerings and options for managing email with your domain.

Reclaim provides email mailboxes for customers on Organizational Shared Hosting plans who need basic domain-based email addresses alongside their websites. These mailboxes can be created and managed through cPanel. For more information on managing your email and creating mailboxes through Reclaim, take a look through all of our email documentation.

While email mailboxes are available through Reclaim, website hosting and email hosting have different requirements. For organizations that rely on email for critical communication, collaboration, or daily operations, we recommend using a dedicated third-party email provider.

Dedicated email providers specialize in email delivery, spam filtering, security features, and account management tools that are designed specifically for email.

Email Services Available Through Reclaim

Customers on Organizational Shared Hosting plans can create email mailboxes through their hosting account. These mailboxes allow users to send and receive email using their own domain (like name@example.com). These mailboxes are managed through cPanel and can be accessed through cPanel’s webmail interface or connected to an email application such as Apple Mail or Outlook.

Reclaim-hosted email can be used for basic email needs, including:

  • Creating domain-based email addresses
  • Sending and receiving small amounts of email
  • Managing mailbox settings through cPanel

If you have Student/Personal or Faculty/Professional Shared Hosting plan and would like to enable cPanel email services, you can upgrade to an Organizational Shared Hosting plan using the following documentation: "Can I Upgrade/Downgrade my Account?".

When to Consider a Dedicated Email Provider

If email is an mission critical part of your organization’s workflow, or you don't want to upgrade your account, we recommend considering a dedicated email provider, and we have a list of recommended free and paid Email Alternatives.

While third-party providers will also allow users to send and receive email using their own registered domain (like name@example.com), these providers are designed specifically for email and often provide additional features, including:

  • Advanced spam and phishing protection
  • Improved email delivery tools
  • Collaboration features like shared calendars and documents
  • Enhanced security controls
  • User and account management tools
  • Ability to send reliably send large amounts of email through tools like mailing lists

Email and website hosting also have different technical requirements. While your website can continue functioning normally, email delivery can be affected by factors such as spam filtering policies, email authentication settings (SPF, DKIM, and DMARC), sender reputation (which can be affected by other accounts using email on a shared server), and receiving mail server policies.

Dedicated email providers manage these systems specifically for email delivery and reliability, which can make them a better choice for organizations that depend on email communication.

Connecting a Third-Party Email Provider

If you choose to use a dedicated email provider, your website can remain hosted with Reclaim while your domain-based email is managed through another service. To connect a third-party email provider, you will typically need to update your domain’s DNS records.

For more information, see our guides on MX Records and Connecting to a Third-Party Email Provider and updating DNS records using the DNS Zone Editor.
