What's Up with Pending Orders in WHMCS?

When seeing WHMCS for the first time, you may be a little alarmed by the ‘X Pending Orders‘ link that’s listed at the top of the dashboard. We realize this is a bit misleading, so this guide is here to explain what that actually means:

WHMCS considers all accounts pending until approved, but this does not mean that those accounts are not already active and in use. For example, if you click on the pending orders link, you’ll likely see that most accounts are active, but a few are inactive:

The active status means that 1) a user logged in successfully and 2) signed up for an account successfully.
The inactive status means that the user logged in successfully but did not sign up for an account.

Domain of One’s Own Administrators can clear all the pending accounts in WHMCS by going into Orders > Pending orders and accepting them all.  This workflow allows admins to look over the accounts created and see if anything went wrong. (For instance, a student signed in and did not create and account and you want to follow-up, etc.)

That said, whether or not an admin accepts the order, the account will still function properly and go straight to live on the web. So, while all new accounts show as pending with the idea that they should be reviewed to make sure there are no fraud orders or other issues, there is nothing requiring admins to accept new orders. You could leave all orders placed in your WHMCS as pending and it would have no effect on your DoOO service.

In terms of Reclaim Hosting recommendations, reviewing and accepting new orders in WHMCS regularly is good practice for keeping a pulse of all new orders and getting a sense if you have any suspicious or potentially problematic accounts.
