Importing Installations in Installatron

Overview

If you have an installation somewhere else on the web you'd love to migrate over, or an application in your account that currently isn't managed by Installatron, Installatron can import applications and take over management of them for you.

Note: This guide covers two methods for importing. The standard Installatron import works for most applications, but if you are using one of Reclaim Hosting's Custom 1-Click Installers (such as Scalar, Mukurtu, or OHMS Viewer), the standard import will most likely not work. In that case, skip to the Workaround for Custom Reclaim Installers section below. You can identify which type of application you're running by visiting the Reclaim Hosting Application Page.

Standard Import: Within the Same cPanel Account

Let’s start by looking at installs that might already be in your hosting account, but not currently managed by Installatron. You may have migrated your account manually and setup those files and databases yourself to get the application online. Installatron makes it easy to add an existing application from your account. You start by logging into cPanel and clicking on the application you’d like to import into Installatron:

Note: While you may find the application you want to import on the homepage of cPanel if it’s featured there, you can also click “View More” to see the full list, and there are indeed a lot.

Once you’ve found the application you want to import instead of clicking the “Install” button you’re going to click the dropdown beside it and choose import existing install.

Since we’re assuming the application is already in your hosting account you’ll select from this account as the location.

Now all you have to do is tell Installatron what the URL of the installation is and it will automatically read the install information and import it into your account. Once that’s done you can take advantage of all the great Installatron features with your application.

Standard Import: From a Different cPanel Account

Now, if you've been using Reclaim Hosting since the beginning you may not have a need for that, however importing applications is not limited to applications that are already on our server. Assuming you have FTP information for a previous host, you can actually import those installs too! Follow the same instructions to find the application you want to import and choose the second option From a Different Account. Find the application you want to import and choose the second option from a different account .

For this to work, you’ll have to give Installatron SFTP (File Transfer Protocol) credentials to your old hosting account so it can migrate the information. By providing login information as well as the path to the files, Installatron can assume the privileges of your previous application and grab everything it needs to migrate. Here is a screenshot of a guide for the settings that you will use:

Protocol: SSH
Server: either your shared hosting IP address (found in right-hand sidebar of cPanel dashboard) or the server URL
Port: 22
Username: Your cPanel Username
Password: cPanel Password
NOTE: the username/password are different from your Client Area login (here is how to find/change these credentials)
Path: location of the installation in the original account’s File Manager.

Once your application is imported, you’ll have a hosted application on Reclaim Hosting powered with Installatron which you can use to automate updates and backups. Moving files and provisioning databases is so last year!

Workaround for Custom Reclaim Installers

If you are using one of Reclaim Hosting's Custom 1-Click Installers, like Mukurtu, or OHMS Viewer, the standard import method above will most likely not work. However, there is a manual workaround that lets you connect these installs to Installatron. This process can be used for any application that can be installed using Installatron but isn't importing the standard way.

Custom Installer: Within the Same cPanel Account

Some of the installers you may need to use this for include Scalar, Mukurtu, and OHMS Viewer. For this guide, we are going to be using a Scalar install as an example.

  1. To start, some of the installers you may need to use this for include: Scalar, Mukurtu, and OHMS Viewer.  However, this process can be used for any application which can be installed using Installatron but isn't importing the standard way.  For this guide, we are going to be using a Scalar install.
  2. Log into cPanel and click on File Manager.
  3. Navigate to the directory containing the install and click Settings in the upper right corner.
  4. If Show Hidden Files (dotfiles) does not have a blue check mark, you'll want to click to add this and then click Save.

  5. Click Select All and then Compress.
  6. Select Zip Archive for the compression type.
  7. You will want to change the location and name in the box to the home directory and something like backup.zip (Note: it must end in .zip) and then click Compress File(s).Screenshot 2024-12-24 at 13.14.13.png
  8. This will put backup.zip in your Home directory. Once you have verified it is there, delete your install directory (don't worry, we'll recreate this in the next step).
  9. Now, go into cPanel and do a fresh install of the Application using Installatron. This will create the directory as well.
  10. Then go back into your File Manager (if you are still there, click Reload) and you will see your site doc root once again.
  11. Select your zip archive and click Extract.
  12. Type in the path to your doc root starting and ending with / as shown and click Extract Files.Screenshot 2024-12-24 at 14.06.40.png
  13. This will over-ride your current files with the files of your original site and connect it to what is in Installatron. You can now manage your site through Installatron!

Custom Installer: From a Different cPanel Account

If you are migrating one of these custom installer applications from one cPanel account to another, follow the Moving Content to a New Location guide with one important tweak: in the new account, do the fresh install through Installatron before starting the moving process.
