Reclaim Hosting takes regular backups of all user accounts and holds onto them for thirty days. This provides insurance for students/faculty in case a change they make or a software update were to break their site.
While reaching out to Reclaim Support for a full backup is always an option, this quick tutorial explains the multiple ways that you can generate/upload backups yourself right within your cPanel.
There are backups that can be created a few different ways in your cPanel. We'll explain the various options below.
Jetbackups
If you want to download or restore one of the backups Reclaim Hosting creates automatically for you, you can do so by pulling a copy using the option in Files > JetBackup 5, an icon located in your cPanel.
These backups include everything from the entire account, and you can use them to restore anything from the full account all the way down to individual files. You can find our guides on restoring via JetBackup here:
cPanel Account Backups
Your cPanel also has another Backup option in the Files section of cPanel. These are also complete backups of your account, and can be handy if you need to move your account to a different hosting service. Unfortunately, cPanel does not a provide a way to restore an entire full account backup automatically, so for that we recommend using Jetbackup.
1. Head to the Files section of cPanel, click on the Backup icon.
2. Under Full Backup, click Download a Full Account Backup.
- On the next page, select the Home Directory option from the Backup Destination drop-down menu.
- For Email Address, select whether or not you wish to receive an email notification once the backup is complete. (You may also change the notification email address in the provided field if you wish.)
- Click Generate Backup.
If you choose to have an email sent upon completion, you'll receive this verification message once your backup begins:
Once the backup is ready for download, you will see it listed in the Backups Available for Download section:
Installatron Backups
Installatron backups are an easy way to restore applications to previous versions in case you make changes you don’t like or delete something that contributed to the functionality of your site. You can backup to your hosting account or to your own storage location, which would be beneficial if you are moving between accounts.
The process of creating and automating application-level backups is discussed here: Installatron Automated Backups and Restore.
