Using Reclaim Hosting's Pressbooks Installer

Reclaim Hosting offers Managed Pressbooks hosting, as well as a custom installer add-on for Domain of One’s Own schools. You can learn more about Pressbooks at Reclaim Hosting by going to reclaimhosting.com/pressbooks.

The following guide will be useful if you are running a Managed cPanel server with the custom installer add-on for Pressbooks.

Installing Pressbooks

Our custom Pressbooks installer works similar to any other Installatron installer. Get started by going to All Applications from cPanel.

Click on Pressbooks, then select Install this application.

On the Install page, select the Domain and directory you would like to install to. Make sure to set the admin username and password, as well as any other site settings you want to change.

When you are ready, click the Install button at the bottom of the page.

Pressbooks has very specific PHP version requirements. If your install location is not set to use the proper version of PHP, you may see a warning like this:

Fortunately, changing your PHP version is easy, just follow the steps in this article: Changing Your PHP Version in cPanel

Once you've changed the version of PHP, you can try the install again.

Activating the Pressbooks plugin

After installing Pressbooks, you will likely see a blank home page on your site. The last step to get things working, is to activate the Pressbooks plugin. To get started, click on the /wp-admin link for your site.

Log in with the admin username and password you set while installing Pressbooks.

In the menu bar, go to My Sites > Network Admin > Plugins.

Click Activate under the entry for the Pressbooks plugin.

That’s it! You should have a working Pressbooks site!

Optional Pressbooks dependencies

Pressbooks has optional dependencies that allow for PDF and ePub export. These need to installed on the server, as well as in your site’s wp-config.php file. Get in touch with our support team to make sure any dependencies you need are installed on the server, as well as what lines should be added to your site’s wp-config.php file.
